"The work is revelation, not construction."

What if everything you've done so far has brought you precisely here? The thread back to your core self never broke. It's still there — in the whisper, the pull, the quiet longing you just can't name yet.

That's not failure. That's the invitation.

Is This You

You Carry the World. Who Carries You?

You've spent years showing up for others: your family, your clients, your community. You give of yourself freely, lead with purpose and hold space for everyone else.

You do it beautifully and generously. And it may be costing you more than you realize.

This work doesn't stop your drive. It amplifies it.

As you return to your fully resourced, core self, you move, create and connect from the place that sustains you, not depletes you.

You've Done Therapy or Coaching Before

You've done the work, read the books, attended the retreats. You have insight, self-awareness and language for your experience. And something essential still feels just out of reach.

You're ready to reconnect.

You're Exhausted By Your Own Strength

You Sense There is Something

More

You give everything. Holding it all together and somehow it still feels like it's not enough. Burnout isn't weakness. It's your nervous system asking to be heard.

You're ready to listen.

More presence. More ease. More capacity to show up fully in your life without losing yourself in the process. You're not here for symptom management.

You're ready for a paradigm shift.

My Therapeutic Approach

Anchored in neuroscience, somatic presence, and spiritual wisdom, my work begins with one essential foundation: helping clients feel safe within their own bodies.

Not by analyzing or explaining, but by slowing down enough to meet what is alive — in the breath, the body, the nervous system, in the present moment.

When safety begins to naturally return, the real work of reclamation begins. Nothing to fix. Nothing to manage. A simple remembering of what was never lost.

SAFETY

Feeling safe within your own body in the present moment is the essential first step of reclamation. If you are reading this, you have already survived whatever your body may still be holding. It's time to release it. And feel safety return.

PRESENCE

Our nervous systems can get stuck in survival long after any immediate threat has passed — leaving us living in the past instead of the present. This work brings clients home to the now. Not just knowing they are safe, but feeling it.

EXPERIENTIAL

Healing doesn't happen simply by talking. It happens inside the body, in real time — moment by moment, breath by breath, as safety is felt and not just understood. This is what updating to the present actually

feels like.

My Revolution Within

Jody Allen, LCSW Somatic Therapist Berkeley and San Francisco, CA

Over 20 years ago, I became a therapist almost by happenstance. A last-ditch application after grad school and a mental health clinic in Brooklyn that saw something in me I hadn't yet seen in myself. I'd spent my adult life - and childhood - trying to help people from the outside in, from  the youngest child in my family, to a community organizer in

San Francisco and New York City.

I burned with passion and purpose.  And I burned all the way out.

It took bell hooks and a silent meditation retreat to begin the deepest work I've ever done: finding my way home to my core self. I knew if I wanted to continue helping others, I had to tend to myself first. After decades of training and sitting with thousands of people in their most tender moments, I've come to know the most important thing: our body is not the problem. It never was. It provides the invitation — and the map — back to our core self.

How We Can Work Together

I intentionally work with a limited number of clients. This is not incidental, it is essential. The depth of presence this work holds lives in the unhurried space between us. The slower and more intentional we go, the faster we get there.

All services begin with a free, brief consultation. A chance for us to meet, to feel into what's calling you forward and sense together whether this is the right fit for both of us.

Extended sessions for those ready to go deeper in a concentrated way. For clients in active breakthrough or those traveling to see me in person. We go where the regular hour can't quite reach.

IN-PERSON/SF TELEHEALTH

For clinicians ready to integrate deeper, presence based approaches into their practice. I offer the kind of consultation I wish I'd had earlier in my career. Experiential, honest and grounded in helping the helper return to themselves.

"Healing begins when the story ends. Between silence and the story lives emotion.

And emotions are the pathway guiding you back to wholeness."

In My Clients' Own Words

"Jody's loving presence and insight helped me disentangle from my nervous system getting hijacked by trauma responses. I'm starting to discover who I truly am. I'm able to relate to myself with kindness after a lifetime of harshness. This has been my lifelong dream."

Writings and Reflections

 "One Conscious Breath"

Every week I write the way I sit with my clients: open, present, honest. Not as a clinician behind professional scaffolding, but as someone who has sat within her own fires. These letters are where neuroscience meets soul, where mind and body wisdom meets the page. They are the foundation of a book in progress — and an offering for anyone who suspects the answers live closer than they think.

The Introduction:
Who I Am and Why I'm Writing

"I've spent over twenty years sitting with people in their most tender and terrifying moments. I'm writing this newsletter because I believe the world is quietly desperate for authenticity and presence. Fear is often a signal orienting us toward our deepest truths. I've learned to turn toward it — so that it no longer stops me, but guides me toward what my heart longs to do. Write.

What The Body Already Knows:
A Teaching & Practice

We have a very sophisticated intelligence system within us. It runs beneath our conscious awareness and communicates in sensation. Most of us were never taught to listen to it — never taught that this same faithful system may be continuing to signal strategies that are no longer necessary, installed for a world that no longer exists. The body doesn't automatically update. But with awareness, curiosity, and one conscious breath at a time, it can.

Your Heart Is Whole:
The Heart's Truth

There is something I want you to not only know, but to feel today. Quite simply, as someone who has sat within her own fires — who has traversed depths within her own self and continues to arrive, again and again, through all of it, at the most important thing I know: we were never broken. I invite you to breathe this is. Not only read it, but feel it. Let it envelop you the way true knowing feels...."

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes your approach different than other therapists and models of therapy?

A lot of therapy works with the story — focusing on what happened, trying to understand it, build insight around it. That's valuable. And for many people, it doesn't quite reach the root of their patterning. As a somatic therapist in Berkeley and San Francisco, my work goes underneath the story, into the body, into the nervous system, into the present moment where change actually happens. Rather than focusing on why you feel the way you feel, we turn toward what the feeling is in your body in the moment — and how it shifts when we gently meet it there together. The slower we go in each session, the faster reclamation occurs.

I've done therapy before. How is this different?

That work brought you here. Many of my clients have done years of therapy — they're self-aware, articulate, deeply committed to their growth. And something still felt just out of reach. That's not a failure of the work you've done. It's an invitation to go deeper. This is body-centered, experiential therapy in San Francisco and Berkeley — it begins where talk therapy ends, in the felt sense, in the parts of you that insight alone hasn't yet reached.

Do you specialize in burnout?

Yes. Burnout is one of the most common experiences that brings referrals to my office — particularly therapists, healers, leaders, and helpers who have been giving from an empty place for far too long. Burnout isn't weakness. It isn't failure. It's your nervous system's intelligence asking to be heard. As a therapist specializing in burnout in San Francisco and Berkeley, my work helps clients stop running on empty by returning to their fully resourced core selves — so the work they care about most can finally come from a place that sustains them.
